February 5, 2008- Anita Marshall felt strong and confident in her live interview with Jennifer Moss of www.WOODTV.com She displayed Mary’s jewelry that was recovered in June 2007 and it was a poignant movement for all of us in the studio office. If you have not seen the YouTube video related in the jewelry it may be viewed with the link on the right side of this page.
We advised the anchors doing the story that although there appeared to be some crisis and chaos in the Marshall Police Department related to the departure of the chief and the deputy chief we are still positive Mary’s investigation is going forward. The Michigan State Police have advised us that they continue to be in the city each week and are aggressively working the investigation.
Throughout the day the family received positive response from the public on the WOODTV-8 presentations about Mary and even new leads, which will be passed along to investigators. Please continue to contact us with any information about the Mary Lands case even if you believe we might be already aware of it. We continue to believe the case will soon be solved and we will bring Mary home.
We are now focusing on March 12, 2007, which will be the 4th anniversary Mary’s disappearance. We would like to do something different this year and in a forum that Mary would have appreciated. On March 12, 2008 Mary will have been missing for 4 years. We hope the WOOD-TV8 feature and the 4th anniversary date will propel closure to this case. Because of the recent conviction of Mary’s former boy-friend, on unrelated charges with a 4 1/2-15 year prison sentence, this was the first holiday season in the last four years that brought hope and optimism to the Marshall family. We continue our trust in law enforcement and the criminal justice system and we know that we soon will bring Mary home. Let’s continue to focus on Mary and how to achieve those objectives. We urge anyone who might have 
information to contact the proper authorities, and the family. Again, last week the law enforcement team spent hours in investigative interviews related to Mary's disappearance. They are just as vehement as we are in solving the case and getting the job done.

I heard that Chris Pratt is in Ionia. Too bad it wasn't Munising. It sounds like his little brother and a few others will be joining him. It is a shame that Mrs Pratt is not heeding a few words of wisdom. With all due respect maam, you could be charged with conspiracy if you are hiding anything. It would be a horrible thing to happen; however, you have to decide what is the right thing to do. If you choose to protect your son then you will have to face the consequences. I pray for you, Mrs Pratt and I hope that whatever you decide, you can live with it.

This day is for showing those you love that you care about them. I find it disturbing that a family member of mine murdered a woman who truly loved him. He showed his love by hitting her and forcing her to stay away from her family. I find this odd because Chris's parents had shown him love all his life and Louise still does to this day. What happened to this man who is in prison now? Why did he turn out this way? I don't have an answer to it; I wish that I did.
My point, folks, is this. Chris is truly unable to love another human being. Why he is this way, I don't know. What I do know is that I have seen so much love and compassion given to Cliff, Anita and their family over the past 4 years. I wish for the Marshall family a Happy Valentine's Day.
Bellamy Creek is one of the newer facilities in Michigan prison system, but still a Level II. There is no doubt Pratt's classification will be higher when he starts to play his games. Bellamy Creek is one prison among six others in Ionia including; Deerfield, Richard A. Handlon, Ionia Maximum-IMAX, Michigan Reformatory, & Riverside
Chris will have more visitors for awhile than if he was up north but it probably is better in the search for Mary. He'll be within the viewing area of all the media and he will see his bald head & twisted ears on TV in a a jail jump suit. There are many in prison who know about him and the information will get out soon. It will be a quicker ride too when they bring him back to Calhoun County to face more charges.
And besides, Jeff and his posse need to get familiar with the prison system. He and others will be occupants in the near future.

A real wealth of information learned today on the inner mind of Chris Pratt during his nearly seven months (197) days in jail. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request from Calhoun County is available to any interested persons.
It is strange that his good brother, Jeff Pratt only visited the jail twice. His mother, Louise Pratt- 27 times, Joy Ann Giarcoletto-21 times, Carter Pratt-1 time, Barbara Dawn Pratt, 1 time. So much for all the Pratt Pride we have heard about?
Records indicate numerous ticket violations for hoarding toilet paper, passing and trading notes, refusal to take medications, possession of contraband, dumping food because he claimed, “it stinks”, and playing cards fashioned to make picture frames. Mr. Pratt also was cited for having the names of inmates who owed him food listed on a piece of toilet paper.
The FOIA request also notes a deposit to his account of a check from Target in the amount of $323.73. The check was returned by the bank because it was void after 120 days. That deposit was deduced from his account. The records also note charges incurred such as haircuts- $10.00, tooth-paste- .25cents, Medication- $3.50, and numerous other canteen costs.
Mr. Pratt received “Inmate Restricted Mail” that included 3 leaves that were confiscated and a news paper picture.
All public records will soon be posted on this site and may be viewed by the public.
Yes, there is no doubt. Christopher Luke Pratt is going to be a headache for officials at Bellamy Creek.

It is no surprise that Chris has shown his true side in jail. Wait until he is provoked in prison. He will be, mark my words. His brother will be joining him as well as a few other accomplices. The sad thing is that Louise will lose another son to the prison system. It's a sad thing to watch; however, choices were made and now, repercussions will follow.
I would like all of you here to know that this case will be solved whether Jeff comes forward or not. If he were to talk, his outcome would be better. Jeff, think long and hard about this. You have a family. Do you want your kids to NOT have their dad with them? It will happen, Jeff, if you do not cooperate with the law. You are in a tough spot but Chris does not deserve your loyalty. After I read what Chris did in jail, I thought "what a jerk!". Don't you see that he is such an egomaniac, he can't control himself. Again, I will say that if he is this out of control, how the hell did he get away with Mary's murder for so long? It's because he had HELP, folks. It's as simple as that. I am no expert in criminal justice but let me tell you something. Chris Pratt is incapable of self control. Do you know why so few of the family visited him in jail? Hi this is just from a mother of two beautiful children and I can not believe that a monster can do this and people actually think and believe he is innocent. Just think how these poor parents must feel that their beautiful daughter is missing and not found. I really hope justice is served and this monster is put in jail for the rest of his life. There are some truly compassionate and caring people out there and many have posted on this and other blogs. I think that everyone shares the desire and commitment to bring Mary home to her family. As disgusting as some of the comments are from PRATT PRIDE sympathizers, they pale in comparison to the caring comments posted by the advocates for Mary and her family. Keeping this blog alive helps keep Mary's story alive. Keeping Mary's story alive will ultimately lead to the solving of this case.

That this is not just a missing person but that it is Mary Denise Marshall Lands that has without much doube been killed - covered up - and that it is just not acceptable. While they are probably not connected - now another missing person from Marshall. I do know that many searchers have worked very hard. There are lots of great people around here. But, what is going on with the MPD, City Counsel, etc. Voting people do deserve answers. Who do they think pays their wages?

What is all the secrecy in Marshall? TV this morning reported Olson was fired and wants to meet with attorney and city attorney aabout it all? Is it in any papers?First he is on leave, then not resigned? Where is he and why? No wonder Mary Land case hasn't been solved? left hand don't know what right hand is doing. Olson may be out driving Mary's dodge durango for all we know?
I keep wondering what it is going to take to get this case solved. Those of us who advocate for Mary know that Chris Pratt did it. I believe that we have a true leader in Billy Jack here. I also believe that a series of events will lead us to dear Mary. One of these events is Chief Olson leaving his position for whatever reason. I think that we should be patient now and wait and see what happens next. I truly believe that this will be solved sometime soon.
Billy Jack, I am hopeful that with Mark Schauer's help, we can bring Mary home to her family very soon. The idiots who helped Chris Pratt in this will rot in hell or whatever prison accomodations they will reside in. Perhaps, when Jeff goes to prison, he and Chris can be cell buddies. I have spent a considerable amount of time over the last 4 years related to the Mary Lands case becoming acquainted with the criminal justice system in Calhoun County. It is much more complicated than I ever realized although I come from a family of law enforcement officers, which includes my own experiences.
We all take for granted our courts, prosecutors, police, correctional facilities, victim advocates, parole/probation and their associated agencies. Most people don’t even begin to be aware of them until they might be personally involved.
Any person reviewing the Chris Pratt FOIA information of Calhoun County Sheriff Al Byam’s Correctional Facility can see the nearly insurmountable and constant tasks that must be accomplished daily by deputies. The professionalism, diligence and perseverance of those employees are clearly visible in these documents. This does not even include potential danger that his staff is subjected to during each and every shift.
Sheriff Byam, all our citizens in the county should be proud and grateful at the performance of your employees. There is not enough money to pay me to do that job in the jail, and the only reason your deputies remain there is because they believe they are helping our community.
They surely are doing so, and are a testament to your leadership.
Great work Sheriff. You and your staff are keeping us safe.
Jim, I read the FOIA documents relating to Mr Pratt's stay at our county jail and I absolutely agree with you. The documentation shows the high degree of professionalism of the law enforcement personnel. By just reading some of the reports, I got an eye opening view of what goes on there on a daily basis. Much thanks to you for keeping us, the readers, up to date with everything that is going on. Your dedication to Mary and her family is a wonderful thing. Keep up the good work.

The recent information about Chris gives insight to everyone about how he really is. Chris is 40 years old yet he acts like a teenage thug. He hung out with the Lorenz brothers who are almost young enough to be his sons. Chris is a real piece of work in that he hates being told what to do. He also hates not having someone to terrorize. If Chris just had "rages", one could work with him on that. No, what is most scary about Chris is when he is deathly calm and calculating. He has said things to the women in his life which were meant to terrorize and scare them. He gets off on controlling and abusing women. When Chris is this way, he is truly scary. He became really bad when he started using meth and other drugs. We have all read about violent behavior in those who use that nasty drug. I saw a big change in him once he started using drugs.
I am not trying to make excuses for him. Absolutely not! What I am trying to do here is to warn people about drugs and to warn women about being in abusive relationships.
Norrene is a free woman now; however, the scars of what Chris did to her will never go away. I thank God that he is locked up and I believe that he will never be let out once he is charged for Mary's murder. There are new developments each day. So hang on everyone, we're in for a wild ride. I don't know much about Sam Pratt, but I do know that many years ago when he worked for Starr Commonwealth, he saved a young girl from being abducted and raped by a drifter. I would think that his son would want to follow his example and do the right thing.
I am sure that many of us who blog here have checked out Court TV, CNN, America's Most Wanted, etc. I, myself, have emailed these shows bringing to their attention the Mary Lands case and what is going on here in Marshall. All I have received in response to my emails is a standard "thank you very much for your email". Why is this that a case which has gone on for 4 years has received so little national attention? One would think that with Chris Pratt's conviction for domestic violence and the fact that he is in prison for it, would have stirred up some interest. Billy Jack or Jim, can you give some insight as to why this is the way it is? Thanks.
That is an excellent question and I don’t know the answer? I have presented all this documentation over the last 3 ½ years to everyone in the national media even going out-of-state on numerous occasions. At least 100 packets of pertinent materials on Mary Denise Lands were delivered to various representatives of all the media you mentioned. Maybe if the police hadn’t bungled it in those first few months we may have had national coverage? Many producers stated that they could not ben obtain the cooperation of Marshall officials to do a story. For too long MPD considered Mary an adult runaway, and it has been difficult to overrcome. I suppose because the woman who disappeared wasn’t a 20 year-old college student or from an affluent part of society that the effort was at the bottom of the ladder.
One of our supporters tried to obtain a meeting with Senator Mark Schauer-D and the family was willing to meet. That person later contacted us and said we could meet with an aid in Jackson on the 29th, but not the Senator because his schedule is tied up for months. I told the supporter that the family is tired and frustrated after meeting with officials only to be disappointed. I actually provided Senator Schauer all the information on Mary’s case in the past and he has never responded. I thought much more of him when he was a member of the Michigan House, but it seems as if he has turned into just another typical politician. Rep. Mike Noffs-R, a former member of the Michigan State Police is in the same category. He never answered our letter. Last year we asked for a meeting with the new Marshall City Manager, Chris Olsen and he was so arrogant that Anita Marshall left the meeting very upset before it was over. Mr. Olsen also was not comfortable with the presence of Creighton “Cricket” Burrows who attended the meeting with myself, and the Marshall’s. All Chris Olsen was concerned about was having the family cease our protests and give up on questions about Mary’s Dodge Durango and her disappearance. He claimed our efforts were only “creating turmoil in the City of Marshall and didn’t do any good”. Sometimes I am so skeptical of the city that I wonder if Chris Olsen might be driving around in Mary’s Durango, which is now in the city motor fleet? He was so despicable as a governmental official that he didn’t even send a letter to the Marshall’s thanking them for at least coming in and expressing their concerns. That my friends is pure ignorance and arrogance.
Even Calhoun County Prosecutor John Hallacy personally met with the family twice and after the zealous performance of his assistant, Dan Buscher in Norrene’s trial, there is no doubt Mr. Hallacy’s office is committed and wants justice in Mary’s case.
The Marshall family and I would go to the North Pole to meet with anyone who we believed could help our case.
Today we have a different situation. Mary’s former boy-friend is in prison, and I don’t believe he will ever be released. D/Sgt. Mike Scott of the Michigan State Police has told us they are actively and aggressively working the investigation. We know who was involved in Mary’s disappearance and murder and the time is now for that one witness to come forward and provide the details of the crime. It will happen. We would welcome any media coverage of Mary’s case but the answer is here in Calhoun County. WOOD-TV8 has probably done the most in keeping Mary’s name in the public and for that we are grateful.
If people would like to do something to help at the present time I would urge that you all send letters, email, and call as many people as you can in the national media. Ask the say question we have been asking for 4 years, Where is Mary? and, When will we have justice for Mary?
Tell them about the upcoming 4th anniversary for Mary and ask their help. We need a visible demonstration on Wednesday, March 12th that the public is behind the Marshall family. We will keep you advised on details in the next few weeks and we ask that you be with for 30 minutes as we again continue public awareness on Mary’s disappearance.

I would meet with anyone to discuss the matter, but it is not a political issue. Everyone in the public and private sector is aware of the circumstances of Mary's case.
We need people to do the walk, not just the talk in an election year. We need politicians who really care. We need these officals to personally hear the plight of the family and come to see them on March 12th. If you recall, only 3 times in the last 4 years has a chief of police stopped and visited Cliff & Anita at their home.
My thoughts are that even a letter to Attorney General Mike Cox from a Michigan senator or house member could be valuable in Mary's cause along with the many letters from citizens in our community.

Jim, thanks for your response. As frustrated as I am about this, I can only imagine how frustrating and infuriating it has been for you, Cliff and Anita. We vote public officials in office to represent us and for them to act in our best interests. I agree with the statement that they are only there at election time. How sad is that! As for the city manager, Chris Olsen, what a piece of work he is. I have heard nothing but bad comments about his performance as both a city manager and as a human being. Perhaps, if Mr Olsen had a family member disappear without a trace, maybe he would begin to understand what Mary's family has been through. As far as I am concerned, Mr Chris Olsen is a disgrace.

Again, we all are in support of the community that has helped us. We just don't wish to re-invent the wheel and much of what has been discussed has been completed over and over. Friends new to the Mary Lands situation are not fully aware of what has been accomplished in the past 4 years and we are not dismissing any suggestions or ideas. We just need to focus on how to bring Mary home.
I've been critical in the past of law enforcement and believed it was the proper way to go. Today however, I vehemently believe their team is on the way to charging the person/s responsible for Mary's disappearance.
We welcome the support of the entire community including any elected officials who can help. As I previously mentioned, if people would continue to show visible support for the family of Mary Lands and keep her name in the public eye we will have accomplished our objectives.
Elected and appointed officials come and go, as do police personnel, but Cliff & Anita Marshall are this for the long haul and will never leave their beloved Mary forgotten. With your help, we can assist in their goals.
With a few weeks to go until the anniversary of Mary's disappearance, I think that it's time that we all concentrate on a few things.
1) How would a "loose cannon" not be found out and charged by now?
2) Who is protecting him and why?
3) Did this case have anything to do with Chief Olson's job termination?
4) Who are Chris Pratt's FRIENDS in MPD? Why are a couple of them involved in the leadership of MPD at this time?
5) Why is Jeff Pratt still protecting his brother?
It seems to me that no one is getting something very SIMPLE here. Chris is too volatile of a personality to do this on his own. he may be calculating and cruel but he is also impulsive and immature. FOLKS, HE TOLD PEOPLE THAT HE DID IT! HOW "IN CONTROL" IS THAT?
I, too, am disgusted that our lawmakers and government representatives here in Calhoun County can't seem to find or make the time to help the advocates of Mary Denise Lands. It is a disgrace and even more than that, a truly disappointing code of conduct. Shame on you, Mr Schauer and Mr Nofs. Your constituents deserve better than this. I feel that this meeting would let you all get out there and put all your thoughts and feelings into this case and maybe open up all their eyes. I really feel this is what this case needs is people like you both letting the Senator Mark know all what is going on and all the leads in the case. This case really needs to come to a closure and this would be a great way of trying to get to this closure. Please do not give up now! Keep blogging and all that you do.
We are not responsible for those who are ignorant so just try to get past that. They are the ones who live such an abnormal life that they think the abnormal becomes normal. It is hard to reason with ignorance.
What I wanted to say is that there is truly some new things coming up. It may take until the middle or end of April. But, it is going to be help and from a new direction. When front doors are closed or misguided or ignored then we must take alternate routes. While Mary is the primary missing person in this - it does involve much more. There are plenty of cases where bodies are found dead but are not ever solved in this area. One that stays in my mind is a woman who had a son that rode a bicycle around Marshall who was found dead in a dumpster. She came to me to see if there was anything she could do to fight this (to at least get his insurance to bury him). This young man managed to put a steel rod through his side and then throw himself into a dumpster behind the Plaza. That takes talent! Yet it was written as a suicide! Some of the deaths, I have heard in our area are now being written off as "suicide by lifestyle" Come on now - this takes a team. Not one or two people.
Get thinking. You now have Mr O. that stepped down - as you all know the old saying Shit filters down! Well I can't blame him if he did not want IT to stop with him!! These problems were going on long before he became head of the safety dept. The one good thing is that he may now become an asset to solving things. We can hope, and that is what it is all about.
What all of you must think about is the City Commission! They do not even think you as a town deserve the so called double talk a good politican can BS about. You are just left in the dark! Legal issues or not - something that involves all of the town - that town deserves to be addressed. Told something and yet you are completely ignored. Bet you really feel safe leaving it in their hands.
Now you must really start thinking. Who runs the City Counsel or Commission or who is pulling their puppet strings. They sure are not. They are answering to someone. Who is giving their legal advice? Think about it. How far up does this go? Who says the public has no right to know what is going on. More secrets!!!
Can't wait to share what is brewing but must ask for you to stay patient for this just a bit longer. This will be solved. With that - it may be pretty interesting how far and wide this might be unravelled.

I want to know where in the hell Marshall got their city manager. He is a real piece of crap. When I read about how he has treated Mary's parents, I came out of my seat. Mr Olsen, you can be replaced, just remember that! Who the hell do you think you are?
I am continually shocked and amazed at the arrogance and stupidity of your city officials in Marshall. No wonder you have an unsolved case here. When this case breaks, be aware that all HELL will break loose. Watch who loses their jobs. Watch who goes to jail. I can't wait. So, sit back and relax. The games are about to begin.

Thank you for updating me Mary - I hadn't checked my email for a long time - I'd had a bad worm virus in computer last fall - one day she'll be found, as all other missing people will be - it might take until we all reach the here-after, where nothing's unknown.
I relate to Mary for reasons other than her being missing = when I was younger, I was in an abusive marriage for about 8 years - I wasn't the only one that suffered - my children were scarred, each in their own ways - I was beaten in the back of the head about 200 times and most times thrown around - and out of the house onto the ground - one winter night after being beaten and tossed outside, I fell asleep in the cold - it was about 10 degrees below freezing - later, my six-year-old daughter came outside after her stepfather fell asleep and saved my life = an abused person can't get away from these situations, knowing they'll be killed if they try to leave, or actually do get away - this man was a good man, except when he drank too much - he was married before being married to me and his 1st wife (I found out about a year ago) had two miscarriages because of him = he died of a heart attack at the age of 33 during the worst winter storm in January 1978.
I was lucky, maybe, that he died - what would have happened if he hadn't.
I couldn't talk to my children about him, as a mother should, after losing a father - they loved him - he was their dad - I didn't want to go there into the past - it hurts me because I couldn't reveal happy memories of him for them - my oldest daughter (his step-daughter) hated him and was glad he died - he injured her soul, and she pays for my mistake - there's no going back to change what can't be undone - fate takes us on a journey that can't be amended = my daughter is a very dear, kind person - she takes in crippled animals and sticks up for the rights of those in need of help - maybe, she's a better person for all she'd gone through as a child.
I lost a brother who was 13, when I was 11 - he drowned - I "saw" his drowning years before it happened - the day he died, I was "shown" a vision of him lying in the water - probably about the same time he fell into the lake - but I was too young to understand that I might have saved him if I'd check the water where I "saw" him in my mind - I searched for him for an hour or so, before running frantically to the spot where I'd been "shown" - he was there drowned, exactly as I had "seen" - but it was too late.
I just wanted to share this with you and possibly Mary's family -they might see that life goes on, although being harsh - grief, loss and devastation can make us become more than just people living each day without feelings for others - it can teach us to care about all living things - we are all connected spirits - even in death.

I would like to thank you for sharing your story with everyone. You are exactly right that we are all connected in spirit - especially in death.
I have had visions all of my life. The hardest thing to predict is the timing of the events shown. Maybe it is best if we do not always know for sure. However, it does lead us to live with the should of, could of, would of, feelings sometimes. We can only do our best at the time.
Mary's death will not be in vein. It will have a purpose. We might not be able to bring physical life back to her but we can make her proud by not giving up.
There is nothing worse than losing a child. I can not even imagine. This is truly something they will never "get over". However, with everyone who cares - we may be able to help them to "get through" it. This can happen by continuing to get to the truth of where Mary is. I am for getting together as citizens, to help this cause. Certainly the family and Jim (as well as others) have been trying. Yet the public needs to speak out about their feelings and the things they "KNOW". People in positions other than Marshall NEED TO KNOW this has not been handled right. The family has not been treated right. And on and on and on!!!
Billy Jack, Hopefully you will call Shelly at the Cronical - she may get the word out to citizens who may want to join in this effort. What's a little more press for the big city! Let's do it for honor. The old fasion American way!

Each of you who are advocates of Mary share a special bond. I think that most of us are seeing the county we live in with new eyes. Rumors of drugs and police coverup have circulated for years. Marshall is a PERFECT kind of place for that kind of activity to go on. LOOKING THE OTHER WAY has been the standard here in Marshall. You have affluent people here who do not keep track of their children. The high school is a drug free zone, however, drugs are easily obtained off property. Kids from other communities used to cruise Marshall not for the tradition but for buying and selling drugs. Police here just ignored it. Parents ignored it. What really floors me is that people don't get that it is still going on. My own grandson who is in high school is smoking weed and his friends are, too. I am sick of hearing what a beautiful, perfect town Marshall is. You who believe this should have your heads examined.
My tip for today is this. When the truth comes out about what happened to Mary, so will the truth come out about corruption and scandal in this place you call home.

I think you posting this comment makes me wonder about you and your involvment in law enforcement. Do you blame Billy Jack for not wanting any officers of the law there, if there were no one involved in this case Mary would have been home already. So before you go and tell someone they are yelling and being hostile think of the situation first and think of the family that does not have their daughter mother home instead of thinking of the law enforcement who has pretty much dont nothing in this case. people have said things about how Chrs burned Jeff when they were young. I remember that fire years ago and on dept. It was suspicious but Jeff didn't get burned by Chris from fireworks or as a joke when Jeff hiding in doghouse. Chris set fire to a mattress while Jeff was on it and the result was the burns on his face. Chris wasn't burned. Family then moved from that house to present one on West Michigan in Albion. Imagine the damage this sick person has done over years? fires, killing animals, perverted actions with genitals of deer he shot, beating women and working up at the age of 34 to killing one. How many others are out there? We had one bizzare guy in our town and I'm glad he's gone and we are all safer. I know my children are safe with with guy in jail. If family had any backbone they would call to say where Mary's body is so she can be put to rest. That would make this all go away even if they can't prove it was Chris Pratt. Let them bury their daughter.

How can this town have faith in any of the MPD officers? With some of them being corrupt, doesn't that make you a little worried? They took an oath to protect us and from what I am seeing that couldn't give a crap about any of us.
Maybe the MPD needs a face lift and new officers? Ponder that thought and maybe some truth will come out.
I wish I knew for sure who the corrupt cops were. I know 1 for sure...our dear officer friendly...what a joke. They want our kids to listen to the #1 loser of a cop. Like I said we need to have a face lift.
