Chris Pratt Guilty on all charges, Remanded back to jail, No bond, Sentencing in January

Update, August 20, 2007- Mr. Pratt’s attorney appeared for a motion hearing in Calhoun County Circuit Court asking that the charges against Christopher Pratt be dismissed. He also presented a motion for a bond reduction on the defendant. Mr. Pratt was present for the hearing after being escorted into court by a deputy sheriff. Three members of the Pratt family were also present in court. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Dan Buscher represented the State of Michigan.
Mr. Pratt’s attorney argued that the False Imprisonment charge was a "stretch at most" and there was no restraint. On the count of Telephone Interference (Ripping out the phone) he stated that the "ruckus" had already occurred, and the charge was not appropriate. He further stated that Mr. Pratt and his former girl-friend had been involved in a one-year relationship, and there was no force. He also argued that the magistrate and district judge had abused their authority on the bond issue. Mr. Buscher, on behalf of the State, responded with confidence and clarity on each issue citing pages of testimony from the Preliminary Examination. He further stated the defendant was a dangerous person.
After a 20-minute hearing Judge Stephen B. Miller denied a defense request to quash any of the charges, and further denied reduction of the $75,000.00 bond. Mr. Pratt was returned to the Calhoun County Jail and faces a maximum of 38 years in prison and fines. If it is not heard on November 6th it will be be first of the docket for November 27, 2007.

(Chris Pratt, Halloween 2006, as the Grim Reaper)- After this photograph was recognized by Marshall family members it was immediately determined that this cloak was actually made by Mary's sister. Her mother, Anita brought it back from California as a gift for Mary in 2001. Mr. Pratt claims that this costume was his and handed down by the Pratt family over the years and he traditionally wore it each Halloween. Ironic, Isn't it?
Mary’s sister said it all quite well on one of the the recent postings, and we thank everyone for the support they have offered over the last 44 months. I reiterate my own request to anyone in the Pratt family about the return of Mary’s cloak. We know that there are many good people in their family and we ask if one of them might consider this family request? I can intricately describe the fabric and design of the cloak if there is any doubt? We appeal to Louise Pratt, Jordan, his mother, and the many aunts and uncles of your family to return this item. The Marshall’s have so little of sentimental value from their daughter and it would be a kind gesture. We know the cloak was removed from the house on 15 ½ Mile Road after Chris was incarcerated. It probably is among the items that were moved by family members after his former girl-friend vacated the premises. Thank you for your consideration.

Are You a Victim of Domestic Violence? Michigan State Police- Domestic Violence Awareness
In the suburbs, a man kills his wife and then turns the gun on himself. Police are called to a hospital to investigate an elderly woman with a fractured hip after being pushed down by her adult son. A teenage girl is punched in the stomach by her ex-boyfriend in the hallway at school. Each of these events raises the same question: Could this tragedy have been prevented?

What is domestic violence?
Domestic violence is a pattern of learned behavior in which one person uses physical, sexual, and emotional abuse to control another person.

Domestic violence is not a family matter. It is a crime, and it is in Michigan. The Michigan State Police Uniform Crime Report tells us there were 54,258 reported victims and 30 reported murders related to domestic violence in 2004. Domestic violence is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.

Under Michigan law, a person has a domestic relationship if any of the following apply:
· Spouse or former spouse
· Dating relationship or former dating relationship
· Child in common
· Resident or former resident of the same household

What does domestic violence look like?
· The following are some of the most common tactics used by abusers to control their partners but certainly not a complete list. If you or someone you know has their personal freedom restricted or is afraid of their partner, they may be a victim of domestic violence.

Physical Abuse
· Pushed, shoved or kicked
· Slapped or bitten
· Strangled
· Hit or punched
· Locked out of your home
· Denied help when ill, injured or pregnant
· Weapon used against you
· By physical force, not being allowed to leave
· Objects thrown at you
· Abandoned in a dangerous situation

Sexual Abuse
· Forced to have sex or watch sexual acts
· Forced to perform sexual acts or have sexual acts performed on you
· Forced to dress more sexually than you wish
· Forced to have sex after a physical assault, when you are ill or as a condition of the relationship

Emotional & Psychological Abuse
· Threatened harm to you, your family or your pets
· Beliefs, race, heritage, class, religion, or sexual orientation ridiculed
· Manipulated with lies and contradictions
· Being convinced you are to blame for the abuse
· Stalked

Economic Abuse
· Denied access to bank accounts, credit cards or vehicle
· Partner controls all the finances
· Prevented from getting or keeping a job or from going to school
· Limits your access to health, prescription or dental insurance

What can you do to help someone who is being abused?
· Educate yourself about domestic violence.
· Let go of any expectations you have that there is a "quick fix" to domestic violence or to the obstacles a woman faces. Understand that a woman's "inaction" may very well be her best safety strategy at any given time.
· Believe her and let her know that you do.
· Listen to what she tells you and avoid making judgments
· Validate her feelings.
· Avoid victim blaming. Tell her the abuse is not her fault.
· Take her fears seriously. If you are concerned about her safety, express your concern without judgment by saying, "Your situation sounds dangerous and I'm concerned for your safety."
· Support her decisions. Remember there are risks attached to every decision an abused woman makes. If you truly want to help, be patient and respectful, even if you don't agree.

Who do you contact for help?
Often, the best source of help and information is your local program. For more information on local support services, please visit the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence website at: http://www.mcadsv.org/ and click on "Locate Help Near You."

You may also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233.) Call toll free, 24 hours a day, anywhere in the U.S. Trained counselors provide confidential crisis intervention, support, information and referrals to local programs to victims of domestic violence, their families and friends. The hotline links people to help in their area, including shelters, legal and social assistance programs. Help in English and Spanish with interpreters available in 139 more languages.

We certainly are not scared off by the police, and DO NOT intend to stop until this is resolved. However, we do feel that the majority of the events that took place that horrible night have been revieled. Now it is our intention to continue to persue last piece of evidence.

It truly is important for energy to be given to Mary, the family, and Noreen. Everything has got to be teamwork. We have knowledge but know that we cannot solve it without professional assistance. Therefore, if you would like to reach me, Jim has my number and maybe all of us could get together and do some consturctive brainstorming with platt maps. I know we are hot on the trail. We would respect your identity as I know you will ours. God Bless.

You ppl talk about disrespect; What of the disrespect to Chief Mike Olson and the department? If you have all the answers why don’t you swamis make an appointment come down to discuss your allegations? Search dogs have checked areas of interest and will check more. If you know so much give out facts not a bizarre tale of trick or treat. The police are engaged in solving this case. Go back to your cards

To anonymous of 10/31 @ 8:47 am:

Or should I say, police blogger. Well, you seem to know all the answers so why don't you solve the case? Or do you really want to? Maybe the truth won't set you free. Maybe, it will put some of you behind bars yourself. Everytime you open your mouth and blog, stupid, ridiculous comments come flowing out. So, unless you have something worthwhile to say, keep quiet.

police blogger-I guess you don't get it. People are afraid to go to MPD because others have been threatened. What don't you understand about that?
If you can solve this case, why haven't you, it's already been over 3 years. None of the people getting messages will come to MPD because just as you have done here, they will be treated as if they are off in the head. So why don't you go solve the case and not worry about what people here are saying. The truth will come out-hope your not one involved in this mess.

We must stop these dubious allegations against officers in the Marshall Police Department, about their alleged criminal involvement in Mary’s case. They will be deleted.
On numerous occasions I have provided email and telephone numbers of other agencies if people wanted to provide information they were not comfortable in giving to MPD.
This is a site dedicated to Mary Denise Lands and bringing her home. If people continue to slur the reputation of any agency and its members without proof it is going to make it much more difficult to solve this case.
In July, psychics proved me information and in good faith we followed up on every piece of information related to a particular piece of property where they claimed that Mary could be found. It was thoroughly searched several times, but to no avail. It was also searched by law enforcement with their own dogs and hadlers with the same negative result.
To Sue B, Guy, Judy, and her other friends, we thank you for your information but the time is for us to find facts and not just spread rumors and gossip. Throwing around scurrilous and absurd stories serves no legitimate purpose. There is no doubt that MPD made many mistakes in the past but it is 44 months later and today there is a visible aggressive effort by law enforcement to bring Mary home. We cannot have it jeopardized with people who have absolutely no evidence to support their statements.
You are welcome to talk about Mary’s case in any forum, but these comments are not welcome here. You need to chill out and if you like please come back in a few weeks if you really wish to support the family. We just cannot have any more of these type comments on Mary’s blog.
For now, comments will be reviewed prior to publishing. The Marshall Chronicle does this on their own blog and I believe it impedes the flow of information, but we have no choice. There are nearly 800 posted comments since this JusticeforMary blog was implemented. Even some Pratt family members have posted remarks that we may not have agreed with but never had to consider deleting. We welcome input and discussion however the lack of civility and courtesy from a few has made this action necessary.

if the knowitalls would go to a different agency perhaps the reports could be checked. there's plenty of rumor. Lets find the truth. It is easy to run your mouth and claim to get messages from a dead person. Have these messages been turned over to cops?

Hi Jim, I’d like to remain anonymous, but I live near Division Dr in Marshall by the airport. Shortly after Mary Lands disappeared the MPD did a field search of this area, all along Division Dr. I guess Chris lived on this road years ago and used to brag that he could hide a body "out back". Anyway, they searched the area pretty good, but to my knowledge no one has ever checked the ponds back there. I personally have never been back there, but I guess the ponds are kind of straight back from the oil tanks across from the airport. Maybe it would be something to look at. I don't know where Chris lived on Division, but I've been told it was closer to Old 27, which if my thinking is correct, would be in line with these ponds. Good luck and keep up the fight.

On Thursday, November 1st at 2:10 P.M. I stopped by the residence of Louise Pratt to ask if she might consider returning Mary’s cape/cloak to the Marshall family? There was no one at home and her vehicle was not in the garage. I left my card and a note for Mrs. Pratt to return my call at her convenience.
We have mentioned this several times on the blog but have never personally tried to make contact with the family about its return. I know that several members of the Pratt family have been following the web sites and must be aware of what we are asking?
There are a lot of good people in the Pratt family and we appeal to them if our request would be considered? As previously mentioned, I would be able to intricately describe the cloak if there is any doubt of who made it and its origin.
I believe this would be act of kindness by the Pratt family toward Cliff & Anita and would go a long way in making a tragedy that has affected many family members on both sides a little more comfortable. Chris would not return most of Mary’s possessions and the family has so little of personal sentimental value.
If anyone following Mary’s blog and the web sites know Louise Pratt or other close relatives in Marshall we would welcome your assistance in trying to have the cloak returned. Possibly the family might be more willing to do so if the request came from someone other than myself or the Marshall’s.
Many in the community know where members of the Pratt family live in Albion and Marshall and their telephone numbers are listed. I don’t feel it would be proper to note that information here.
If anyone can help on this matter, please feel free to do so.
Thank you to the entire Pratt family for any consideration in this matter.

I worked with Louise for many years and know her well. She is a good woman. I will give her a call and see if she would agree to the family request.

To Anonymous, 11/2 at 10:17 am

Thank you for your offer to call Louise Pratt to see if she will return my sister's cloak to us. I really appreciate it. Would you also ask her to return any other personal items she finds of my sisters please? My sister always said very nice things about Louise that she was a kind and caring person. Mary really liked her and Chris's father.

To another person who posted earlier. Chris gave us back so little of Mary's property. He told us that was all there was when we came to get it. We later found out that he was at a flea market selling the rest and we were able to recover some additional items. One was a picture of my daugthter and my niece (Mary's daughter). Why he would try to sell that is beyond me. But we have come to learn that he had and still has several of Mary's items, including personal papers. We would be most grateful to get all of that back. We no longer have Mary so you can imagine how much her personal items mean to us.

At this point, we want to focus on finding Mary and any tips leading to finding her. For that we need your help. Jim has been there for us through thick and thin as have several of you who have posted on this blog. Jim has fought for justice for mary even to his own detriment. But he is still there trying to win this fight and finding Mary. If Jim had not stepped in to help us, I couldn't even tell you where we would be. Mary would be a little known memory. As of now, I think she is on everyone's mind. Would she have wanted this much attention. NO. But she is getting it because we all love her so much and miss her. We read everything that is on the blog, though we rarely post something. That doesn't mean we don't appreciate every one of you who are in this with us to find her and bring her home and put her to rest. We would do the same if it was your loved one.

I have another comment for now. I feel that MPD and the State Police are doing everything they can to try to solve this and bring Mary home. They can't share things with us and they don't want to jeopardize their investigation. We want the murderer(s) identified and brought to justice, but we also want to win. Which means to put this before a jury, we must have a strong case. If we have a weak one and the person gets acquitted, a murderer walks free. I don't want that and neither do my parents. So please, let's stay positive and focus on Mary and finding Mary. In my mind nothing else matters at this point but bringing my sister home. We love you all and God Bless you for helping us. We couldn't do it without you and we definitely could not have done what we have so far without Jim.

I leave you with one last prayer that I ask you to pray - this came from my Aunt: "Ask God to open your mind to all the information you've received because you may find that kernel that might be very helpful. Or pray that others will be open to a fresh viewing of the information and will see something that might be an "aha". That one little statement or piece of evidence that was overlooked will be the key to finding Mary.

Thank you all and God Bless you. We love you. Gina

I recently spoke with a long-time friend of Mary Lands by the name of Sue Burkwalt, a resident of Marshall. She has been receiving telephone calls about information posted on the blogs related by purported "psychics". Some have suggested that she is Mary D and/or others who have posted remarks about the circumstances of Mary's disappearance.
In my own comments directed to Mary D and others, including a Sue B, I wish to clarify that Sue Burkwalt is not the Sue B that I was addressing. Many of you know the identity of that person. We thank those individuals for their information but it was not of any value. We must now focus on locating Mary and working with investigators toward this objective.
Another very positive and productive meeting was held with members of law enforcement and the family on November 1st and we remain confident that the case will soon be closed with an arrest and the person/s responsible will be held accountable in a court of law.

Anonymous said...

Jim,

Just checked in this evening after a couple of days. I want to thank you for clearifying that Sue B is NOT Sue Burkwald. I do not want anyone taking responsiblity for the messages that I have put on the blog. I did figure that when you mentioned Guy, even though he has had nothing to do with any blogs, most people would know that I am Sue Bess. It has been a "God sent", if there have been new leads brought forth as we had hoped. That Mary's case is out there again. Yes, even the MPD know me and know that I do feel there are very good officers within their department. I am also very confident of the State Police. And you, Jim, do need to be commended for your tenacity and continued care of the family. It has been our intent on getting people talking again especially while CP is in jail. As I expressed to you before it is important for all things to come through you, if possible, as that way you will be kept informed on information that might otherwise be withheld even from you, for obvious legal reasons.

This IS about Mary and about any new information that might come to light. We did give you the one location and you obviously did check it out and I thank you for that.

The police nor you have made us feel afraid so others need to know that. This has truly been an open forum of concepts that have been expressed throughout the past 44 months. Many with psychic abilities and many without. I am only one of these. I am a spiritual teacher. I have not made any ANONYMOUS comments. So even if you do not wish to honor my Purpose Driven or Fact Finder comments please do not discount the comments of others who have been on the blog.

My home is always open to law enforcement as in the past and any of you who wish to contact me. That includes the family and you Jim.

There are several other things that do remain in motion and we still may all need to continue to share information, so I agree, lets focused on Mary's case and not each other.

God Bless all.

Justinian Investigative Services said...

Thank you Sue Bess for your remarks. If we can just continue to put out theories without naming a particular officer it might be better received. I would now be glad to return to having comments automatically posted without a moderator’s review because it saves time for everyone and gets the information out there quickly. Lets just remember to be civil and courteous to all including members of law enforcement. We know a few who shouldn’t carry a gun or a badge, but that is not our problem.
Also, we have not heard back from any Pratt members on the return of Mary’s cloak and so far two people in the community have stated they would try to intervene. We hope the item can be returned to Cliff & Anita.
Thank you again for all your support.

If anyone knows people in the Pratt family who might be able to help in the cloak's return, have at it. It would be such an act of kindless from them to the Marshall family and deeply appreciated.

To the Marshalls:

Your daughter's story has deeply touched me and I never knew your daughter. My prayers are with you all and I hope that one day soon, your Mary will come home to you.

Her story will not be forgotten. Her story will bring forth the issue of protecting others from being abused or violated. It will be Mary's legacy. Helping those who cannot help themselves.

If anyone can help in solving this case, please come forward.

Justinian Investigative Services said...

After Norrene moved from 15 1/2 Mile Road the landlord, Rolland Face, permitted Jeff and others to go in and pick up Chris' clothing, and personal property. I presume the items are now stored at Louise's home?
If anyone can help intervene in the return on the cloak it is would be appreciated. We believe it was on a hanger in his closet with other jackets and winterwear.

Anonymous said...

I can most definitely relate to the need for the cloak to be returned, as I think most who've suffered the loss of a loved one can.

After my mom passed away, I missed everything about her, but especially her hugs. To this day nothing brings me closer to her than wrapping myself in her sweater. It doesn't bring her back, but having something tangible lessens the sharpness of the loss and is a source of comfort.

Everyone is losing in this situation. But no one has lost more than Mary's family. There is nothing to hold onto. I hope that goodwill is extended to them by the return of the cloak and other items. There is a way to heal, and the return of these things would be a start.

Anonymous said...

Were any of Mary's personal items gathered from the market that was able to be returned to the family?

I am sure if any were items sold before they stopped it, and people were made aware of the situation, those people may well return things. Any possibilities along that line?

Anonymous said...

Has any of the Items that were return checked for evidence ... apparently there was a reason Chris was trying to get rid of them and not return them to Mary's family.. or maybe that one piece is still out there..Have the police used Luminal (the stuff to detect excessive amounts of blood) in Mary's Vehicle, possibly the steering wheel ... Was the vehicle that Chris owned at the time of Mary's disappearance every seized for evidence??? Maybe if it wasn't it could be hunted down and examined...by registration number

Justinian Investigative Services said...

We have answered this before, but it will be repeated.
In the summer of 2004 Mr. Pratt was selling all of Mary’s items at the flea market in Homer. Mary’s daughter saw his booth and was able to recover a few small things. She also found Mary's favorite leather bomber jacket, which Mr. Pratt said she was wearing on the night of her disappearance. The jacket was immediately turned over to the Marshall Police Department. One would presume that it was sent to the MSP forensic lab in Lansing, but they have never commented about it again.
Other items at the booth included pictures of family members still in the frames.
After Mary’s daughter took the jacket and left Mr. Pratt put out a sign that all the items left were free. He then left the flea market.
The family has very little of her personal property and if anyone can remember an incident during that time it would be appreciated as it could be relevant.
An update on the cloak.... several people have called and told me they have left messages with various members of the Pratt family including Louise Pratt. She has not returned any of the calls left for her nor has she responded to the card I left on her door a few weeks ago. The family obviously will not even consider turning over the cloak to Cliff & Anita.
An update of Norrene's trial.... it appears that Mr. Pratt’s case will not go to court this week and probably be the first one on the docket for November 27th. We’ll keep you posted.

Anonymous said...

Jim, I wonder if someone at the police level could obtain a warrant to search Louise Pratt's home since there has been speculation that some of Mary's things may be there. You have certainly done everything that you can to try to appeal to Louise and her family to give back the cloak and other things. It really amazes me that it has come to this....begging Chris's family to return Mary's things. Is there anyone who can help with this and encourage the return of Mary's things to her family?

Justinian Investigative Services said...

There is no legal recourse for the family, and you can't obtain a search warrant?
It is just another slap in the face by people who don't care.

To the Marshall family:

I offer you my sincere wishes to have your daughter home. I have thought for a while now that things are not going in the right direction. This is CERTAINLY NOT due to any lack of effort on Mr Carlin's part nor on the part of those helping on this case. I ask for you, her family, to put their faith in God whose help is needed now. Mary is going to be found; of this I have no doubt. She has appeared to quite a few people and she wants to come home now. I ask that you continue with your prayers and God will answer them. Best wishes to you all.

It does seem that someone from the Pratt family could return the cloak through the mail or through his attorney if they did not want to deal with the family directly. It would be a decent positive thing to do. Can't believe they would have any attachment to it. It would seem that it would be a relief to do something positive!

God Bless

It seems to me that one of the most disturbing things about this case is a feeling that many have about why Mary is still missing. I will just say that the truth always comes out and it will this time, too.

May I offer a few thoughts now. I have the feeling that someone is out there who knows the ABSOLUTE truth but is afraid to contact the authorities. PLEASE, whoever you are, this is so important. Find it in your heart to do the RIGHT thing. I also feel that a family member of Mr Pratt can help bring the cloak back to Mary's family. Her family has suffered enough, don't you think?

There is something which really frustrates me about this case. Why is it that a woman who has been missing for 44 months has been so disrespected by some of those in the community? Let me explain. Mary was a victim of domestic violence. I have heard comments from some which I shall leave unnamed, that have been disrespectful to both Mary and her family. I am truly at a loss why the Marshalls have been harrassed and treated like criminals when the true criminal is in jail now. Help me understand why a family should be treated in this way.

Finally, one last thought. There is a book which some might find interesting. It is called "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. Read it, it might give some perspective on Mary's case.

It is a concern to me that the comments and or concepts of people have slowed down so much on Mary's blog. If you had any that did not get through please resubmit them as they are not being moterated now. That was obviously only due to names of MPD personnel being brought into the conversation. We can have the conversation and concepts without being cruel to any one individual. To those of you who may be fearful of your names being mentioned to MPD, let me just say that Jim did not put my full name out there, I did. And, that was to protect the other Sue's out there. He did not betray me. He will keep you anonymous. Locations and relevant information must be passed on to police to be checked out. Please, do not stop blogging as it is a way for the smallest thing to be brought to light God Bless

I am saying this now to Louise. Give the cloak back to Mary's family. I mean it, Louise. Why are you not cooperating with this request? I am really unhappy with what is going on. Chris has to start talking with the authorities about what really happened. I know and YOU know that he did it so start cooperating and give the cloak back. When I was around, no one really talked about if Chris did it. I mean, in the family. You are wrong not to cooperate with this cloak business. Louise, give the cloak back. Thanks.

I think that your thoughts and those of other visionaries are very important, especially now. When a case has gone on so long, any tip or personal concept is important. What I see now is a definite drop in those blogging. This is unfortunate because a lot of information came forth here about Mary's case. There was an opportunity for people to express what they are wondering about along with actual tips.

Please, all of you, come back and join this blog. Your imput is of VALUE here.

Where did mary d go? she obviously knows who is involved.

The big picture here is the involvement of some higher up officials, police and business owners, chris pratt and friends.Their drug dealings, and the fact that mary lands decided to turn her boyfriend(fiance) in to the police.

ok lets keep the big picture in mind people.we all want mary to come home as we all agree. and stop dissing mr carlin ..he is working very hard to bring our mary home.i think chris had acess to montcalm lake(starr commenwealth)and if not there i say silver doller lake...any in put on that?was his stomping grounds..hes knows the area very well..

Thanks "Just Jack", for your comments about the cloak. I do know that I’ve been to Louise Pratt’s home, leaving my card, and several people have called her asking if the cape could be returned to the family. If no Pratt family member has been able to help up to know and Louise will not return calls I presume she will not do so.

On the comment by certain visionaries that I did not find your information of any value? How many times do I have to say it? I have examined every piece of information from numerous individuals and passed it along to the police. The property in the southeast section of Marshall where it was alleged that Mary was buried was checked but to no avail. The written perceptions of the people connected to this tip also had no significance in the Mary Lands Lands investigation. It was reviewed not only by myself, but also by numerous individuals in law enforcement because of the content of the material. There was nothing in the pages that were of any value.

We continue to wait for that one vital link of information that will bring firsthand knowledge to the case and permit law enforcement to commence their prosecution against the person/s responsible for the disappearance and murder of Mary Denise Lands. We don’t need more speculations. We need more hard evidence.

Sue B--- recently called me offering help on the repair of a computer owned by the Marshall family. You have their telephone number. Why don't you call yourself to see if they might be interested? Thanks for the offer and support.

Since Mary disappeared in 2004 it does now seem that more and more police departments have taken a better attitude toward adult missing persons. Initial actions have resulted in people being found and others arrested. This morning the cop in Illinois was named a suspect in his wife’s disapearance and they are exhuming the body of a previous wife who died suspiciously. Because of Mary Lands and other battered women our police are more alert than ever. They are doing there jobs. Let them do the job and bring Mary home.

Justinian Investigative Services said...

We continue to have vulgarity and abuse posted on this site and it cannot continue. I find it ironic that for over one year, and until a few weeks ago we never had to moderate the comments even when Pratt family members expressed an opinion contrary to others. If you wish to discuss the police or anything else that is fine but there is a proper and honest way to do it. This site is about Mary Denise Lands. Again, because of the actions of a few ignorant individuals comments will be moderated before publication. This in no way hampers anyone from writing an opinion or providing any tips. As before, all will be followed up to determine if they are of any value.

Way to go 11/10 11:44am,lets grow up and help out a little bit.If u dont want to help ,find your own website and talk your trash to someone else.To JIM and JUST JACK, i talked to Louise and its not that she does not want to help ,she cant help and she did not take the rest of Chris's stuff when he got locked up her son did!The police and everybody else has harrassed her so much that she just stays to herself. And why are u addressing this to Louise, she does not have access to a computer. One more thing to JUST JACK,what do you mean when you were around the family, are you a family member or a friend??

Justinian Investigative Services said...

When you say that Louise said her "son" took the clothing after he (Chris) went to jail I presume you are talking about Jeff. We knew that and thought the items would have been brought to their Mom's home?
If anyone can contact Jeff or Candace or another in the family to see if he could locate the cloak it would be appreciated. Perhaps now too Mrs. Pratt will ask Jeff to return it. If any one else in the Pratt family could help it would bring some comfort for all concerned. We would also take down the photograph of the cape as it serves no purpose.
Thanks again.

Anonymous said...

Jim,you persumed right,Louise has two sons, ones Chris and the other ones Jeff! Read what i said,i did not say that Louise said her son took the clothing!I said, Louise said that she cant help.I knew that and thought that alot of the items that were taking out of there house were taking by Norreen, then the cops, then by Jeff ?correct?

Justinian Investigative Services said...

Yes, everyone knows who Jeff is and where he lives. Chris' former girlfriend only removed her own property. The police did not take anything other than what was permitted under the law. A few days later the landlord permitted Jeff and other relatives to pick up the remainder of furniture belong to Chris and his personal property. I presume the cape was with other winter clothing that were on hangers in his "special" room. If anyone has a connection to Jeff possibly he might return the cape, or if Louise would ask him to do it.

Anonymous said...

Jim,
I should have the number for the Marshall family somewhere, I know I ask for it a few weeks ago and you gave it to me. Thanks, I will make the computer repair offer to them.

Thanks, Blessings

I never knew Mary, but I worked at Target DC with Chris. I couldn't stand the way he winked at all the women, like he was something wonderful, and sexy. No woman could stand it. He sat alone a lot at work. When I heard he got a new girlfriend, it absolutely shocked me, that anyone could find something even remotely attractive about a "man" who was under suspicion of murder. It made me sick to see him and have contact with him. My supervisor once introduced me to him when I first started there, and I shook his hand. When I found out later about him, it made me sick that I had touched those hands that could have hurt another human being. I am sorry for Mary, and for Mary's family. It's a terrible tragedy.

On December 12, 2007 Mary will have been missing for 45 long months, nearly 4 years.
The Marshall family and I recognize that because of the holiday season it is a difficult time for productivity throughout government and the private sector.
While most people are celebrating this will mark the fourth holiday period that Mary has not been with her beloved family. These seasons of joy magnify the tragedy of their missing daughter.
The Marshall family and I wish all our friends and supporters a very Happy Thanksgiving and extend our Seasons Greetings to all. We continue to express optimism that law enforcement authorities will soon provided the answers we are all seeking.
Lets all be civil in what is said on Mary’s blog and avoid vulgar and abusive terms. Mary’s family finds comfort in your writings and is the purpose of this forum, to hold the person/s responsible for the disappearance of Mary Denise Lands accountable in a court of law.
Thank you again and enjoy your families during this Thanksgiving Holiday.

Jim, I think that many of the heated comments expressed here stem from a frustration and fear that this case is turning into a cold case. As much as we are frustrated, it certainly pales in comparison to that of Mary's family. I can only imagine how horrible it is to not have closure. My thoughts are with Mary's family this holiday season and I pray for Mary's return home. Happy Thanksgiving.

Anonymous said...

Where does jeff pratt live? And has norene been questioned by anyone on mary's whereabouts?

Anonymous said...

No one is talking in this forum now because of the concern which many feel about jeopardizing this case. If you read the blogs from back in June of this year in the Battle Creek Enquirer, you will find that the comments were just as heated as they are here. The blog about frustration in this case is absolutely right.

My feeling is that everyone has a right to their opinion. Criticism is not a bad thing. It is helpful if used in a productive way. It amazes me that in the matter of a week, this blog has slowed down to pretty much nothing. This is a sad thing.

Mary's family is needing Mary to come home. Every comment is important here, even if it is challenging or speculative. There is one thing that we all know. Chris Pratt is a perpetrator of domestic violence. His history certainly shows how violent he can be. I have to agree with those who feel that Mr Pratt is not smart enough to do this all by himself. This case will be solved but be prepared for the truth of it. I encourage all of who read this to think about how long this case has been going on. For a town the size of Marshall, it seems that someone would of spoke up and told the truth by now, don't you think? Mary will be found, I have no doubt. The truth will also be found out, so stay tuned.

If your so sure that he has never hurt anyone in his life then why does he have a record of abuse? Know this Mary will be found and it will also be proven that Chris did it. If your so sure that he didn't do it then why hasn't any of the Pratt family tried to help with the case to help clear his name? I'll tell you why...because they know that Chris is guilty and they don't want to do something that might put Chris away for a very long time. Mark my words Mary will be found soon and Chris will be in jail for a very long long time.

your a real mighti deuch. chris will get off and is innosent. everybody knows its true. his girl friend made up a bunch of stuff and his wife lied. Chris never even smoked any pot never mine those who say he is a big drugdealer. Mary is just ran off with someone. thats why he will never be tried. He didnt do anything wrong ever.

MARY IS GOING TO TRULY BE FOUND.

To the anonymous blogger from today:

You have no idea whatsoever how ridiculous your comments are. There is enough proof of Chris's domestic violence to put him away for a long time. You are in a state of denial about your family member, Chris. When the truth comes out, it will sicken even you. Now, what you don't seem to understand is that Chris has done a lot of talking in the past 44 months. MAYBE, if you would have asked him when he was feeling so cocky about things, he would have told you that he did it. But you didn't want to know, did you? So, why not drop down to Calhoun County Jail and have a chat with your Chris? You might hear something that you don't want to hear. In this season to give thanks, be thankful that you have your family with you.

I just heard a show on radio about Mary Lands case and how Pratt and cops worked together to not be caught. No wonder parents treated way they have been treated. Pratt’s grandfather a judge? Drugdealers in family? he confessed about failing lie detector test. Cheif Police fired who looked at case. Pratt assauted the lady leading a search but they didn't arrest him. Why hasn;t case gone to another part of Michigan to have it solved? People have to listen to this and protest. You can hear it on http://www.sarcasticcrime.com the show was on 11/12/07 and they said it was facts

maybe carlin was bought off to keep his mouth shut and is with cops in coversup.

Regarding blog from anonymous 11/19 @8:16 am

I listened to that show, too and have some of the same questions. One can only imagine what hell this family has gone through. To have lost a loved one is horrible beyond words but to be harrassed like this family has is downright despicable and disgusting. I encourage all who have participated in this blog to listen to that show.

To Mary's family,
Please know that there are many people out there who care deeply about finding your Mary. We also care about you, her family. You may not know some of us but just know, you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

what are the links to this show and how can they be heard? We tried to find it but it is not there?

Anonymous said...

There was a place of interest and it wasnt taken serious enough and while a search was taking place somewhere else someone was getting rid of the evidence. From what I was told the MPD said this place was nothing and supposedly nothing was ever found there by the time it was checked months later by then it was too late. If someone knows things and you feel you have to go out of your way to get it checked out and nobody seems to be truly interested like you would think whether its Jim or the MPD then there is a serious error taking place. I really expected more from the recieving end of this investigation. Mary d said alot of things that made sense.

Halloween has come and go, and Pratt family won't return Mary's cape. Its hard to feel sorry for a family that acts like this. No wonder Chris is as screwed up as he is? Mother and father taught him how. he is a product of emotional turmoil and abuse and belong in prison for ever.
What is Pratt family giving thanks for on this Thanksgiving Day? What goes around will come around.
Where is this web talk radio station? Is it on another site for Mary?

You need to re-think your statement about Mr. Carlin! Why would anyone be bought out and continue to maintain this blog where you can express your opinions. Does not make much sense to me.

Sorry Jim, that anyone would think that way. There are many who really know what you have put into solving this.

Anonymous 11/19 8:16pm - Just to set the record straight. It was not the chief of MPD that was let go according to what I heard it was the lead investigator that was encouraged to retire. It was very difficult in some places to listen to. But much of the time was clear to listen to.

Have a good Thanksgiving.

To the family and friends of Mary: Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Mary's best friend Sue. This is one of the other Sue's. Bless you for your comment. People do get going and forget that this truly is about Mary. Not really a place to pat CP on the back or overly defend him. There are other places they can air their opinions of what a wonderful person they think he is. Maybe he should have his own blog. We must keep in mind it is a court of law does have to do the convicting and law enforcement does have to have any information anyone might have to get him into court for Mary. His own behavior does speak for itself for all of the opinions of those who feel he is guilty. I do feel that his family probably are not all bad people. They probably even hurt but, they at least know he is alive and where he is. That is more than what the Marshalls have on this Thanksgiving day. When I think about the lack of cooperation to return the cloak which would provide just a small feeling of comfort for Mary's family does make one wonder if anyone in CP's family has normal compassion! Sometimes attorneys will not allow things. We can hope that is the case and that it will be returned at some time. Just another waiting issue for all of you.

I can only imagine how much all of you miss her. While we all continue to gather information, it is all of you who hurt each moment of each day. The holidays are just harder. Know we care!!!

Much Light and Love to all of you during these times. We pray there will be better days ahead. If you need me call.

Let's be clear on something. Mary Lands will be found one day soon and justice will be served not only to Chris but to anyone else involved in her disappearance. To anyone who may have significant information on this case: the truth will set you free. If that information is not revealed, it will haunt you the rest of your life or lives. Please do the decent, humane thing and tell the truth. Please find it in your heart to do the right thing. Mary's family has suffered enough.

To Mary's family,

You are in my thoughts and prayers as I pray for the return of your dear daughter, sister, mother and friend. I do know that she will come home to you. There are so many people out there who care about Mary and you, her family. Many of these people you do not even know. Her story has touched many deeply and they feel frustrated and angry that Mary has not come home yet.

To those who are responsible for Mary's disappearance and departure from this earth:

Please know that the truth always comes out and there are always consequences for one's actions. Please do not fool yourself or selves into thinking that you will get away with your actions.

To the many helpers and those who have shown concern:

Please know that you have made a difference and because of you all, Mary will be found. With the season of Christmas approaching, let us focus on peace and goodwill towards all. Say a little prayer tonight for Mary and her family. Your efforts will be rewarded.

Mr Pratt's grandfather was not a judge he was a coalminer from kentucky. and no we are not related to abner Pratt (he was a judge)of the Honolulu House no relations. it is so funny where do you get that info.

Justinian Investigative Services said...

Thank you to the Pratt relative for providing the correct information on Judge Pratt. We knew that was the case however some people are misinformed or write something they believe might be true.
While I am thinking about it is there a chance that Mary's cape might be returned? I'm sure by now you have determined that it was made by Mary's sister and brought back from the West coast by Anita as a gift for Mary.
Please find it in your hearts to return that one piece of clothing to her parents. Possibly Jeff can put it in a bag and give it to Mr. Marshall or myself during the trial next week. I'm sure your family members will be there too.
Thank you for your consideration.

This was posted by a supporter for Mary on a MySpace site;\

I worked with Chris Pratt at Target Distribution from the time it opened until November 2005. Mary was trying to dump him, he had even said she was seeing someone else. I had told him how my wife that I was married to, was screwing my daughter and I around. He made a comment about me killing his girlfriend and he would kill my wife. I chalked it up as a joke, I did not realize he was Mary's boyfriend. I remember people talking about the guy who did it worked at Target, and I ended up asking him who the scumbag who was that killed her, I had no idea, he was the guy. He would go on to tell how the FBI and the police kept going through his computer, his house and tearing his life apart. I know he did it, and like O.J., he got away with it. My heart goes out to Mary's family, and I hope there is some justice for her and her body can be found, and Chris Pratt can get what is coming to him. We need to make Michigan a death penalty state.

Ok, with Chris's trial coming up on the 27th, many are feeling satisfied that at least justice will be served with his domestic violence charges and he can get a prison sentence. My friends, this is not enough for Mary and her family. Mary needs to be found so her family can have some closure. Mary needs to be found so that the truth about what happened and who all was involved will come out. Yes, the truth will come out. Month number 45 is almost here. It is time for this case to be solved.

I received this email concerning tomorrow's trial of Mr. Pratt. It was sent by a family friend in Texas. I removed the person's name for anonymity.
These are similar to the many kind emails and comments being sent on behalf of the victim and for the family.

i am praying as hard as i can...let me know what happens. thanks!

People will forget what you say and people will forget what you do.

But, they will never forget how you made them feel...

Anonymous said...

It has been awhile since I have made some comments about this case. I will be honest right now and say that I do have some concern that some think that a conviction for Mr Pratt in his current domestic violence charges is enough or should I say, better than nothing. This type of thinking is wrong. What Mr Pratt did to Mary, he needs to be held accountable for. Mary's family and her advocates will never settle for just a conviction in this case. They need Mary back and they need to know the truth. Until this happens, they will never have closure. Until this happens, the residents of this community will always wonder what really happened.

To those who are involved in Mary's disappearance and murder, do not fool yourself into thinking that Mary's case will just go away once Chris gets convicted for domestic violence. It WILL NOT go away. You will have the weight of the truth hang over your heads and you will never really be free from the speculation that you were a part in this. You will be haunted by the memories of what you did. How one can live with themselves for doing such a horrible thing is beyond me. But then again, I am not a sociopath for I do have a conscience.

I have not changed my mind about my thoughts about this case. In fact, I feel even more strongly about them. From what I have read, others feel pretty much the same that I do.

To Mary's family:

Please know that a circle of prayer surrounds you. The truth will come out and those responsible will be held accountable in a court of law.
